The Technology

The Navy Region Southwest Integrated Solid Waste Management Program (ISWMP) had historically used non-centralized, simple spreadsheets to manage its business processes including recycling and refuse bins, contracts and construction, as well as demolition projects. Historical tracking methods allowed ISWMP to track costs, but did not provide methods to mitigate costs and more efficiently use resources. ISWMP desired a system to incorporate mission-driven systems integration into the daily operations through the use of geospatial technologies.

The Solution

With an One Clear Picture (OCP) solution, ISWMP has changed the way it conducts business by geospatially locating all bins on a map and managing their related contract information information through web-based forms. ISMWP can perform tabular queries of bins of interest, which will drive OCP to the correct geospatial location, displaying only the selected bins. ISWMP personnel can add new bins through OCP or move bins to new locations. ISWMP also coordinates Construction and Demolition (C&D) into its business processes using OCP to spatially draw areas where C&D projects exist.

The Result

Through adding a mapping capability to what historically had been conducted through simple spreadsheets, ISWMP can view their data as never before and make more educated and efficient decisions which result in cost savings.
